Electrical Upgrades for Style and Safety!

As experienced electricians at Lake of the Ozarks, we know it happens over time.  There are things in your home that become outdated, out of style, or even unsafe. The same is true with your electrical system. Unless you have a very new house, times have changed since your house was built, and our demands for electricity have, too. So, if you’re thinking about some home improvements, you might want to consider some electrical upgrades to make your home safer and more modern. If you’d like to hear some ideas on some simple electrical upgrades to bring your home up to date, We have some ideas for you in this blog.

Electrical Panel

With greater demand for electricity and a much larger demand for electronics and specialty appliances, it is quite possible that your electrical panel is not big enough or suited for the upgrades in technology. Since all the power coming into your home is directed through and dispersed by your electrical panel, it’s important to know it is capable of handling the capacity you need. Upgrading of an electrical panel should only be done by a licensed electrician at Lake of the Ozarks.

Lighting Fixtures

Kitchen and bathroom lighting upgrades can have a huge impact in your home. Not only do they brighten up the room and create needed light where you work or get ready, but they also allow you to make a statement and define your style. Old lighting fixtures can really date your home, and on the flip side, new fixtures can totally make your home feel fresh and modernized. You might take the opportunity to upgrade to LED bulbs at the same time and save on energy costs as well.

Outlets

Depending on the age of your home, your outlets may be out of date or unsafe. You want all of your outlets to be grounded, meaning they should accommodate three-prong plugs, not just two prongs. If you have two-prong outlets, that is not safe and those outlets should be replaced. But you can’t just replace the outlets, that third prong is for a ground wire. So upgrading to three-prong from two-prong outlets may also require some wiring. In addition, look in your kitchen, bathroom, and any place else near water and make sure the outlets are GFCI outlets. GFCI outlets are designed to disconnect if they come in contact with water or short out. Is a major safety feature that is considered a requirement in new homes and worth updating even if you are not required to.
